"Blue Divas" was a smashing success! What a show this was! With a hot band backing us, Jade Watt and I brought to life some of the great songs of Bessie Smith, Ma Rainey, Georgia White, Ida Cox, Sippie Wallace and many others. These classic blueswomen made the blues acceptable in mainstream society at a time when to be a woman, especially a black woman, was a dangerous thing. But that didn't throw anyone. This music is fun and funny and provided a fascinating glimpse into our American history.
